Arkansas Advocates Celebrate School Breakfast Month

Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance and advocates celebrated “School Breakfast Month” this March! All month, advocates highlighted the importance of a healthy breakfast each day and ways to improve access to nutrition programs for students. This month’s theme was “Books + Breakfast = Success!”

Governor Asa Hutchinson kicked off School Breakfast Month with an official proclamation and Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance recognized four school districts for increasing participation in their schools’ breakfast programs. Congratulations to Marion School District for winning first place and increasing their March 2019 breakfast participation by 74 percent from March 2018. Congrats to the second- and third-place winners and honorable mention: Lake Hamilton School District, Van Buren School District and El Dorado School District! Thank you to all participating schools and districts for working to increase access to breakfast for all Arkansas students!

AR-GLR and R.I.S.E. Arkansas also hosted a photo competition for local teachers and schools. Check out our winner from Little Rock School District’s Dodd Elementary below.
