In Pulaski County, more than 400 volunteers across the community – from churches to businesses and civic organizations to government agencies – have stepped up to ensure all students read proficiently by the end of third grade. AR Kids Read partners with more than 95 local organizations to recruit, train, and mobilize volunteer reading tutors throughout central Arkansas to support students reading below grade-level in kindergarten through fifth grade. Since 2012, AR Kids Read has placed an annual average of 400 volunteers with 900 aspiring readers in more than 48 schools in the Jacksonville North Pulaski, Little Rock, North Little Rock, and Pulaski County Special school districts.
AR Kids Read not only helps community members make a difference as tutors but also increases access to age-appropriate books and reading materials. Since 2012, AR Kids Read has distributed 40,000 age-appropriate books to children.
